An absolutely astonishing performance by Tyler Hamilton today in the Tour de France! Early on in the tour Tyler broke his clavicle in two places, decided to continue riding anyway, and today, on one of the most prestigious and difficult climbs in the tour -- the Alpes d'Huez -- he hangs on Lance Armstrong's wheel in the last twelve kilometers, even attacking once or twice! This after a measly 135 miles in eighty-plus degree heat, complete with several category 2 and 3 climbs, for a total of about six hours in the saddle. To say nothing of Iban Mayo's super human effort to finish first today by almost three minutes! Master was glued to the TV shaking his head in disbelief. Lance did well enough to capture the yellow jersey. The next few days of racing should be pretty exciting.
It was okay that Master was preoccupied with the race today because it was plenty hot in Anchorage -- eighty four degrees. I was out a couple times for walks but frankly it was too dang hot. In case you didn't know, eighty four is really hot for Anchorage.
