I was a tad more impressed with Master today. His op-ed appeared in the Anchorage Daily News letters section. When Master rides his road bike I know he's out there to get his workout in, not just tootle along the bike path smelling the roses as it were. I'm afraid that in spite of the
Daily News article, and Master's follow on, Anchorage drivers will remain hostile toward road cyclists. Still, he'll keep riding, I know he will.
Bike article should be required reading for Anchorage drivers, cops
Thank you, thank you, thank you, for the July 15 Life article, "Cycling Smarts." As an avid cyclist in Anchorage I too have been shouted at, screamed at, introduced to middle fingers, cut off, and been made the target of various jetsam from passing vehicles. I'm thinking of miniaturizing the article and pasting it to the back of my cycling jersey, so that the next time a motorist screams at me, "Get on the bike path!" I can reference the municipal code that says I may legally ride the shoulder of the road. Hopefully police officers in Anchorage will take your quiz, because last week one of them pulled up alongside my friend who was cycling on Klatt Road and ordered him onto the bike path.
