Inferior Genes?
This guy's done. This is Turnagain Arm (so named because Captain Cook had to turn again after venturing down it looking for the Northwest Pasage, only to be disappointed at its dead end), where the tide can swing over thirty feet. The place pictured is minutes by car from downtown Anchorage. This unfortunate Beluga whale and his buddies, over forty of 'em, were probably gorging themselves on silver salmon, got complacent and missed the outgoing tide. Inferior genes? I don't think so, just a bunch of whales out having an exceptionally good time, they used bad judgment and it cost them their lives. Could have happened to any one of us. And oh by the way, that wouldn't mean we weren't evolutionarily successful.
