Pass The Wine, Wouldya

In Dogdom we speak a straightforward language. Only so many ways to spin woof you know. But uprights, sheesh, they have words for every little thing, sometimes more than one word. Take wine tasting for instance. I was snooping around Master's desktop today and found these tasting notes he took at a friend's birthday bash last month. And what bash it must have been. Why it would have made the internationally renowned demigod of red wine himself, Robert Parker, sit up and take note. Not one of these seven bottles was Parker-rated below 95. Listed here in order of tasting (with Master's rating in parentheses). Note how the flowery descriptions decay to almost doggerel <ahem> as the night wore on: ;-)

Grand Vin de Leoville, Saint Julien, 1995; deep opaque purple; open and fragrant nose; heavy glycerin on glass; well-balanced, forward fruit, hints of licorice, blackberry, and some oak; integrated tannins; superb mouth feel and finish (95).

Hermitage, Guigal, 2000; herbal nose; mild to no tannins with some acidity; complex fruit with hints of cherry, tobacco and spice on the finish; somewhat lean but should age well (93).

Amarone, Allegrini, 1997; Oh my goodness this is good; silky tannins; beautifully balanced fruit and acidity; strong flavors of raisin and tobacco; a darling mouth feel with an awesome finish. Is there any of this left! (96)

Chateau Haut-Brion, Bordeuax, 1996; Beautiful color, deep purple (smoke on the water!); awesome fruit-forward nose, front and mid-palate pleasure; hints of blackberry, vanilla, leather, and smoke; sexy finish; yum yum (95).

Dominus, Napa Valley, 1996; Damn, a guy leaves the table for a few seconds and he misses out! What do you mean we thought we poured you some, Rod? (???)

Penfolds, Grange, 1996; Oh, baby hold on to this one! Earthy, rich, and classically spicy, but a tad tight yet -- like my prom date! <laugh laugh>. Should cellar well (95)

Barolo, Falletto, 1998; darling acidity and finish. Just damn good...(91)
