Final Stretch
Proper attire?
Good news this morning -- Master's latest manuscript was accepted by
PLoS Computational Biology! Coming just days before
The Final Defense, which sounds like the title of the latest Clancy novel. And
final at this point is presumptive in any case, I realize, but it's very rare for anyone to come this far and fail their defense. Surely three peer-reviewed publications (and another under review) will be sufficient to convince the committee members you
something about what you claim to know something about. The event will begin with a public seminar, nominally an hour long power point presentation, followed by a private grilling of the
candidate by his committee. Then, the
candidate will be asked to leave the room, hushed discussions will ensue, the
candidate will be invited back into the room, and the decision rendered.
This dog can hardly wait!
Proper attire is recommended. It is certainly not unheard of that the degree of
"easiness on the eyes" exhibited by the
candidate (and his wife!) may influence the committee's judgment of the
candidate. So what do you think of the above, too casual? Too saucy? About right?
