The ears of corn are gone from stores.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Wait, are you wondering the same thing I am?<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Why &#8220;ears&#8221; of corn? Why not hands of corn, or chins of corn. Buttocks of corn?<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The ancients were indeed a mysterious people. And then came Google:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px; text-align: justify;\"><em>\u201c<b>Ear<\/b>\u201d comes from the ancient word \u201cahs,\u201d which meant \u201chusk of <b>corn<\/b>.\u201d In English, sometimes the <b>ear<\/b> also is referred to as a \u201ccob\u201d or a \u201cpole.\u201d The <b>ear<\/b> is the spiked part of the <b>corn<\/b> plant that contains kernels, the delicious yellow tidbits we love to nibble on in the summertime.<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Ah hah &#8212; that explains it! Now I know what my New Englander friends were trying to tell me the winter of my visit &#8212; &#8220;Cahver yah ahs, Rahd, it&#8217;s cahld outside.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">So, what is a husband to do? Having been charged by Happy Wife with dinner prep for Tuesday evening, the store shelves bereft of <em>Ahs<\/em> of Corn, yet still desperately wanting to prepare her the grilled corn recipe from this one:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"http:\/\/ethnicelebs.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/Giada-De-Laurentiis.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"290\" height=\"457\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Speaking of <em>delicious tidbits to nibble on in summertime<\/em>. Had the ancients been introduced to Giada we would not now be referring to them as <em>ears<\/em> of corn. KnowWhatImean? &lt;nyuk nyuk&gt;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Anyway, where was I. Oh right&#8230;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">I went to my grocer&#8217;s freezer section and purchased frozen <em>Ahs<\/em> of corn. Brilliant!<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">I&#8217;m serious. Giada&#8217;s grilled corn (w\/Parmesan) <a title=\"Grilled Corn with Parmesan\" href=\"http:\/\/www.foodnetwork.com\/recipes\/giada-de-laurentiis\/grilled-cream-corn-with-parmesan-recipe\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\">recipe<\/a> is the bomb . Or, as my great nephew would opine: Amaze Balls.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Behold my rendition: Giada&#8217;s grilled cream corn w\/Parmesan, spice-rubbed, grilled Alaskan halibut, oven-crisped prosciutto and an arc of cucumber:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.rknibbe.com\/blog\/images\/2014\/October\/grilledCorn_big.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"http:\/\/www.rknibbe.com\/blog\/images\/2014\/October\/grilledCorn.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"225\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Plus California Cabernet, vintage &#8217;12.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">How&#8217;d I do?<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">(Reminder: certain images on this blog may be embiggened by clicking on them).<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">What else, what else&#8230;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Oh right, the weather.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Unseasonably warm. Not quite warm enough for this anymore&#8230;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.rknibbe.com\/blog\/images\/2014\/October\/lounging_big.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"http:\/\/www.rknibbe.com\/blog\/images\/2014\/October\/lounging.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"311\" height=\"443\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">(Whoa! <em>Gams<\/em> of corn. Am I right?).<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">&#8230;but pretty warm. Like upper 40s by day. Yesterday it reached 52. During our daily walk at the park yesterday Harry was briefly beaten up by Otis, a somewhat spastic Rottweiller mix with a bad temper. No harm done. Like I said, it was brief. By the time I got close to intervene they&#8217;d already separated. Seconds later Otis&#8217;s cherub-faced upright came wheeling by on her mountain bike, oblivious, it seemed, to what had gone down &#8212; &#8220;Come pretty Otis, come!&#8221;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Yeah, I got your <em>pretty Otis<\/em> right here, girl.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Mood: edgy.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Not much else of note going on. <del>I am<\/del> We are anxiously awaiting to hear on the status of a certain <em>application<\/em> I&#8217;ve submitted. Prefer to leave you wondering at this time.
